When your characters grow unwieldy. 

For book 1, I carefully chose names for the major characters that weren’t similar, so as to not confuse readers. Then I realized that some minor characters would become major ones in 2, and many of the names had to be rewritten.

The image shows the second round. And I’ve already moved on to the third round in realization of the casts of books 3 and 4 . . . 

Of course there’s an easier way.

I know how spreadsheets work. But proficiency comes with rewriring the brain and that’s getting more challenging every year. 

But hey. I did use a computer for this post after the nib on my quill kept breaking.
