How to be a dinosaur. 2

Every now and then, after a new draft, some of your chapters will out of whack, meaning way too long or short.

You are welcome to do it my way, called The Way of the Dinosaur. [See image, chapter #s and page #s] And we all know what happened to those cold-blooded reptiles. You got it. The Triassic-Jurrasic extinction event.

If you favour better odds of survival, you might try my colleague’s suggestion:

“Excel/Google Sheets/writing software can help. Probably more straightforward than switching software is generating a table of contents in Word. Copy your draft to a new file, format chapter numbers as ‘heading 1’ and then insert a table of contents at the beginning and it automatically displays chapter numbers and page numbers associated with each and updates if page numbers change or ‘heading 1’-formatted chapter numbers are added.”

Enjoy.
