If you favour better odds of survival, you can try my colleague’s suggestion:
“Excel/Google Sheets/writing software can keep track of chapter lengths. Generate a table of contents in Word, copy it to the new file, then format the title chapter as ‘heading 1.’ Insert a table of contents at the beginning, and it automatically displays chapter numbers and page numbers. Best of all, it will update as page numbers change or ‘heading 1’-formatted chapter numbers are added.”
