A day in the life of the self-publisher

Book 1 was not selling and so was pulled. Time, money, and energy are being gambled on a new cover and reorganized story.

Dec. 8, ’23:

  •  Contacted cover provider to say that, once again, I need more time before finalizing. The provider had asked for the manuscript’s # of pages to determine spine width for the paperback, but I won’t know until it’s formatted. And it can’t be formatted until all the edits are finished. The blurb also needs polishing.
  •  Contacted developmental editor to say I’m experimenting with removing some PoVs. Is he available to assess the new manuscript, and if so, how much time will he need and what will he charge?
  •  Studied calendar to juggle the Christmas hours of the editor, formatter, and cover provider. I will work every day except Sundays and Christmas day, but the contractors are taking significant Christmas holidays. Lucky them.

Thankfully, this is a quiet relaunch. But still—

I hope to pull it all together for KDP, order a proof, make corrections, reload, hit the publish button, and order author copies—all before the February sci-fi event. Yikes.

And now it’s time to write. Ideally, I’ll edit 100 pages by 6pm but that’s a long shot. As I work, ideas bubble for books 2 and 3, and so on. I take notes. The original trilogy is growing.

Update: I edited 90 pages. Whoop, whoop! The next day, 35.  :/
